The Cochran Firm
Born in Mobile, Alabama, Jeff Mitchell graduated from Louisiana State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, and obtained his Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State University, The Paul M. Hebert School of Law.
Mr. Mitchell is admitted to practice before the Louisiana Supreme Court, all Louisiana State District and Appellate Courts, the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Western and Middle Districts of Louisiana, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. He is admitted to the United States Court of Federal Claims, and has been admitted pro hac vice in Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.
Mr. Mitchell is one of approximately 13 Louisiana lawyers who are board certified in medical malpractice cases by the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys. His practice focuses on traumatic brain injury cases, where he has successfully handled, tried or settled more than $42 million in recoveries. He also practices in the areas of Automobile Accidents, Trucking Accidents, Products Liability, Premises Liability and Maritime Law.
As founding partner of The Cochran Firm- New Orleans, Mr. Mitchell’s firm received the 2014-2016 Litigator Awards, which honors the top 1% of lawyers in the country, based on actual “verdict & settlement” dollar achievements. He is one of seven members of the Board of Directors for The Cochran Firm, which has approximately 30 offices nationwide, and is chairman of the Medical Malpractice Section for The Firm.
A member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and the Multi-Million Dollar Forum, Mr. Mitchell is one of less than 1% of U.S. lawyers who obtained membership. He has been a member of the National Trial Lawyers Top 100 from 2007-2017, and is a Diplomat in The National Trial Lawyers Association.
Mr. Mitchell holds the distinguished position of Senior Counsel with The College of Master Advocates & Barristers for promoting excellence in the art of trial advocacy.
He is the 2017 president of the National Brain Injury Trial Lawyers Association (NBITLA), a professional organization composed of premier trial lawyers who exemplify superior qualifications as civil plaintiff trial lawyers in the area of traumatic brain injury litigation.
He was selected Best Lawyers in America from 2012-2017, and was selected for 2012-2017 editions of Louisiana Super Lawyers in the area of medical malpractice. Only 5 percent of attorneys in Louisiana make the list.
Mr. Mitchell is a member of the Louisiana State and New Orleans Bar Associations. He is also a member of the Louisiana Association for Justice and a member of the Medical Malpractice Section within that organization. Mr. Mitchell has been a member of the American Bar Association, the Federal Bar Association, and the American Trial Lawyers Association. He is also a member in good standing of the Martindale-Hubbell lawyer’s rating service, receiving the legal rating of "AV."
