Mr. Michael A. DeMayo is the president and founder of the Law Offices of Michael A. DeMayo, L.L.P. Since opening the firm in Charlotte, NC on Sept. 1, 1992, Mr. DeMayo and his attorneys and staff have helped more than 42,000 clients across the Carolinas. Since that time, the firm has expanded to include three other office locations in Hickory, Monroe and Lumberton.
Mr. DeMayo has assembled a highly skilled staff of 100 members, including 9 experienced personal injury lawyers with over 110 years of combined legal experience. Mr. DeMayo has put together a team that provides aggressive advocacy with a long history of accomplishments, representing all types of personal injury and wrongful death cases. The firm’s personal injury lawyers are licensed to represent seriously injured residents of North and South Carolina.
Mr. DeMayo is rated AV Preeminent (5.0 of 5.0), the highest professional rating achievable from Martindale-Hubbell, a national organization that rates attorneys and law firms. Mr. DeMayo is a Benefactor and an original founding member of the Mecklenburg Trial Lawyers Association. He also is a member of the Leaders Forum and President’s Club for the North Carolina Advocates for Justice. Additionally, the American Association of Trial Lawyers has selected Mr. DeMayo as one of the “Top 100 Trial Lawyers”* for the last two years.
In 2003, the Charlotte Business Journal named him one of the “Top 40 Under 40 Businessmen” in the Charlotte, NC region. Additionally, Mr. DeMayo is co-author of “Carolina Injury Law: A Reference for Accident Victims,” a book designed to provide general information about personal injury claims for accident victims.
Mr. DeMayo is a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum, an honor reserved for trial lawyers who have demonstrated exceptional skills, experience and excellence in advocacy by achieving a trial verdict, award or settlement in the amount of one or two million dollars or more. Mr. DeMayo has settled or tried more than ten cases for over one million dollars and his office has either settled or tried over 42,000 cases since the founding of his law firm.
In addition to his accomplishments, Mr. DeMayo also serves on the Wake Forest University Alumni Council and is a member of the 1834 Society. He currently serves as a Committee Chairman of the development committee and on the Board of Directors for the University of North Carolina School of Law (Chapel Hill) Alumni Association. He also is a member of the William Battle Horn Society.

In addition to all of his legal accomplishments and honors, Mr. DeMayo has also earned accolades throughout the community for his commitment to community programs designed to combat underage drinking and driving. Mr. DeMayo has seen countless injuries and loss of life as a result of drunk driving and wants to do its part to help make the community a safer place.
In 2003, Mr. DeMayo developed Arrive Alive ®, an outreach program to educate teenagers about the dangers and consequences of underage drinking and driving. The firm has delivered this “Arrive Alive ® ! Don’t Drink and Drive” message to thousands of teens in all the areas it serves.
Since 2003, Mr. DeMayo has awarded over $300,000 in college scholarships to graduating high school seniors through the Michael A. DeMayo Scholarship. In 2014, the firm awarded seventeen $2,500 scholarships to students who created presentations on how to prevent underage drinking and driving. Through the scholarship program, the firm wants to try and prevent accidents caused by underage drinking and driving and help teenagers make smarter decisions.
Mr. DeMayo was born in 1965 in Silver Spring, Maryland. He graduated with honors (cum laude) in 1987 and received his B.A. from Wake Forest University. He was admitted to the North Carolina State Bar after completing law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law, where he was a member of the Moot Court Board and was Chairman of the 1990 Moot Court Craven Competition. He was also inducted in to the Order of Barristers.
Mr. DeMayo is licensed to practice law in all North Carolina State Courts, U.S. District Courts, and is admitted to the United States Supreme Court. Mr. DeMayo is fluent in Spanish and has more than 20 bilingual employees to help serve his diverse clientele.
Mr. DeMayo started his firm with a basic mission statement:”Put your client’s interests first and everything else will follow.” He has never waivered on his commitment to providing exceptional customer service with exemplary legal results for all of our clients, while also serving the community at large. Mr. DeMayo considers it an honor that more than 42,000 individuals have entrusted him and his firm to take care of their personal injury/wrongful death needs throughout the years and he looks forward to many more years of service.
Mr. DeMayo has four children. He is a member of St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church. He enjoys and tries to make time for running, cross training, tennis, yoga, water sports and skiing. His activities revolve around his kids’ activities which include football, volleyball, tennis, golf and gymnastics. Mr. DeMayo enjoys spending time with his family and friends in Charlotte, Cabo and Charleston and spends a fair amount of time traveling for work. Traveling for pleasure is also a favorite pastime for Mr. DeMayo which can be a production because of the additional Family Members which includes: 2 Dogs (Golden Retriever and Yorkshire Terrier), 3 Cats (all rescue, two American and one Mexican), 1 Turtle and multiple fish. Mr. DeMayo, an only child growing up, enjoys his personal family life which is dramatically different than his past and the ever changing dynamic of activity and personal interaction is great for learning how to adapt to new and unique situations. When asked about his life outside the office, Mr. DeMayo states “It’s on the job training for all the different types of cases and situations I encounter being a personal injury lawyer and I believe it positively influences my perspective and demeanor. Moreover I believe my active lifestyle and people centric life makes me more sensitive and able to directly relate to my clients’ needs, expectations and objectives.” When there is time Mr. DeMayo also notes that he likes to read.
